In an instant—everything changed.
It was at the tea shop next door, talking to my mentor, when I learned about the seriousness of COVID and that we would have to close up shop. I had no idea, in that moment, that my life would change forever. Or even more shockingly, just how much it would change…
Out of adversity and tragedy we looked inward at what we really wanted out of this life, out of our business. And then we went for it. Guns blazing, in the middle of a pandemic we completely restructured our business and were crazy enough to open a brand new second location…4 hours away. Whoo Chile! I guess that's one of the benefits of growing up poor…my Mother taught me how to make something outta nothing…and that was the beginning of our NEW Resilience Candle Line.
It was October 5th, 2020 and we were SO excited to be in our newest retail space in Downtown, Asheville. We were putting together shelves and unpacking boxes when I realized in a panic...WE HAVE NO CANDLES!!! I'll blame it on still being in shock that we even made a second location happen at all (we launched this store from a $10k grant and a small $6k loan, grit, elbow grease, and God's goodness).
You see due to the Pandemic supply chains were ALL OVER THE PLACE! We had extreme difficulty getting the raw materials we needed to create our candles and fragrance items. In a matter of 4 weeks

- Candle Vessels.....BACK ORDERED FOR 2 MONTHS
- Wooden Wicks.....TOOK 32 DAYS TO SHIP FROM WHEN ORDERED
RESILIENCE the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness.
We were opening our newest location in less than 2 weeks and we had no candles, no supplies to make candles, and no way to get the supplies to make our Signature Candles. As I sat on the floor of our empty new store the tears just came running down my face. I was stressed to the max and clearly a Candle Shop can't open without candles. We were on a shoestring budget and couldn't afford to push opening back because as they say...Rent is due on the First. LOL So I called Madi our Graphic Designer, my work wife, and the best friend a girl could ask for and said "We need to launch a new Candle Line...and we've got 2 weeks to do it...and the candles are going to be named and the fragrances inspired by THE GOOD that has come out of 2020 and the lessons I've Learned. We did it...and after 2 and 1/2 months of tweaking...she's ready for the world!
Our Resilience line is a collection of 15 unique and intoxicating scents created to inspire and share our hearts with our Hummingbird Community. From our self-care scents like Hygge and Savasana to our energizing scents like Power and Vibrate Higher, we are SO excited to introduce this line that we have poured so much of ourselves into you.
